Dr. Ravi Shankar is a nationally & internationally trained Brain and Spine Surgeon with more than a decade of practice. He did his M.Ch. in Neurosurgery from prestigious G.B. Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER), Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.

Realising that neurosurgery demands expertise of a very high order, Dr. Ravi underwent advanced neurosurgery Fellowships with world-renowned surgeons including Prof. B. K. Misra considered to be an authority on cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, as well as Prof. Juha Hernesniemi (Finland).

This training was interspersed with, and followed by independent cranial and spine surgeries at various hospitals during and post-MCh and fellowship training.

He has done M.B.B.S from V.S.S. Medical College, Sambalpur with Gold Medal for topping University and then M.S. (General Surgery) from GSVM Medical College, Kanpur.

He is one of a select few selected from around the world for the prestigious International Microsurgery & Cerebrovascular fellowship at Helsinki, Finland.

He has worked in Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai and Fortis, Gurgaon. After that he worked as teaching faculty of Neurosurgery at V. M. Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi with special interest in minimal invasive brain and spine surgeries, endoscopic Neurosurgery, Functional Neurosurgery & cerebrovascular/skull base surgery. He is one of the very few neurosurgeons in India called Dual Trained Neurosurgeons i.e. one doing both open and endovascular Neurosurgical techniques.

Dr. Ravi Shankar was also involved in International project to determine the outcome of treatment of different Aneurysm treated via open or Endovascular method in a multicentric trial. His stint at Safdarjung hospital has been marked with many innovations like Radial artery/Saphenous vein bypass for giant complex aneurysm, Endoscope assisted aneurysm clipping. He is also recognised in the Neurosurgery circles for successfully applying and popularizing the techniques learned under internationally recognized masters during fellowship in India & abroad.

Dr. Ravi has been invited as a faculty member to deliver talks on cerebral revascularization and other topics at national level meetings. He has authored and co-authored a number of publications, both in the form of articles in national and international journals. He has been at the forefront in organising conferences of varying magnitudes and has been appointed as team leader of various committees, for organising scientific programmes.

Presently he is serving as a Consultant in the Department of Neurosurgery at Medics Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow . He plans to continue his work as a Neurosurgeon at Institute of Neurosciences, Apollomedics Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow in & contribute to the development of Neurosurgery at the hospital.He can be reached at drravishankar@medicshospitals.com
